On August 31st, more than 1,000 Subaru Imprezas will gather at Prodrive's headquarters to pay tribute to World Rally driver, Colin McRae.
McRae died tragically in September 2007 when a small helicopter he was piloting crashed, also killing his son and two other occupants.
The tribute will not only raise money for McRae's family charities, it is also hoped that a couple of world records will be set.
A convoy of Subarus will be lead by McRae's 1995 World Rally Championship-winning Impreza 555, starting at his home town of Lanark in Scotland and stopping at Prodrive in Banbury, where the 1,000-strong group of Imprezas should set a new record.
From there, the drivers will make their way to Prodrive's proving grounds in Warwickshire to create another record in which the gathered Imprezas parade around the two-mile test track.
To finish off the event, the cars will park in such a manner to spell out Colin McRae's name in 100-feet tall lettering, which will reportedly be visible from the air to passengers landing at Birmingham airport.
Taking place on August 31st, the Subaru Gathering is only open to drivers of Subarus and all cars must wear the 'McRae Gathering' plate, which costs £10. For more information go to www.mcrae-gathering.co.uk.
