Forest rally stage

The forest rally stage is a relatively new addition to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the purpose-built course has been enhanced for 2008 with plenty of spectator viewing built in. It's well worth a visit too, as more than 40 historic rally cars will be driven in anger through the gravel stage, as will more modern machinery.

Representing the here and now will be Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson in the all-new hatchback Subaru Impreza WRC, though Mikko Hirvonen and Matthew Wilson will be intending to steal their thunder in the current Ford Focus WRC. Past masters are in attendance too, including Juha Kankkunen, Timo Makinen, Bjorn Waldergard, Martin, Hannu Mikkola, Gwyndaf Evans and the original 'Stig', Stig Blomqvist.

We believe the 2007 event was the last time Colin McRae was seen in a rally car, so fittingly, the organisers have gathered together a collection made up of the cars McRae competed in, with the Ferrari 550 Maranello GTS from Le Mans and a Jordan-Peugeot 196 Formula One car among the mostly rally-based machinery.
