The Government has announced yet another scrap scheme today - but this time it's keeping cars away from the scrap yard and putting them back on the road. That's because cars seized on behalf of the DVLA for tax evasion will no longer automatically be scrapped if not collected within 14 days. Instead, the best ones will be kept and auctioned to the general public.
And with more than 100,000 cars seized every year for having no road tax, it means the buying public is set for an influx of bargain cars. It was the case that untaxed cars, no matter how expensive, were crushed after being seized by NSL Ltd - the private company that provides 'intelligent urban management solutions,' including traffic wardens.
But following an eight-month trial, an auction will take place every two weeks in which around 150 of the best cars will be put under the hammer by Newport Auctions in South Wales. Every car will be available online too. The first auction is on today (7th July) at 11am. Details can be found at www.newportauctions.co.uk or for more information call 01633 262626.
