Lotus Esprit

Alongside the DB5 Aston Martin, one of the most memorable Bond cars has to be the Lotus Esprit. In 1977, 007's 'company car' was a white Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me. 'Q' worked his magic on the Esprit, with its most outstanding feature being an ability to run in submarine mode.

With its wheels folded under the bodywork, the Esprit managed to outwit its chasers by remaining submerged. Not only that, a special underwater 'smokescreen' was also available, along with surface-to-air missiles that could be launched while the car was submerged. Opponents not deterred by the smokescreen could soon be looked after by underwater mines.

James used an Esprit again in 1981 in For Your Eyes Only, a copper-red Turbo this time, but its stardom was short lived as it was blown up by its own anti-theft device. We don't think Halfords stocks that particular one...
