Volkswagen has been on a whirlwind tour of motor shows in the past few months to launch its new Up! range of city cars. But the German giant chose Bologna to bring all three of the concept cars together for the first time.
VW's stand sees the two-door Up!, Space Up! microvan and the Space Up! Blue van all in the one place. The three cars have received a great reception and Dr Ulrich Hackenburg, who is responsible for technical development at VW, said: "Every Up! demonstrates our commitment to protecting the environment and all these cars use extremely clean petrol and diesel engines, and electric motors."
The first Up! to go on sale will be the two-door model, but VW has confirmed that the four-door microvan and hybrid-powered Blue van will follow on very quickly afterwards. Sales are expected to begin towards the end of 2009 and VW has also said the prices of the Up! range will be very competitive for the city car sector.
