Vauxhall was celebrating through the doom and gloom December sales glut, as the maker hit the top of the charts, with almost 20,000 new cars sold.
A total of 19,058 Vauxhalls were registered in December, which though down about six percent on the same period in 2007, was a comparatively strong number. Nissan, for example, recorded a 25.6 percent sales decrease like-for-like, and UK sales were down by just over 21 percent.
Strong sales of the Corsa in Scotland are cited as a major contributor to the Griffin's relative sales success, along with aggressive pricing, and the maker is hoping that the Insignia's entry into the market will improve things even further - it officially launched this month, though 307 were registered before the New Year.
December saw four Vauxhalls sitting in the top ten sales charts: the Corsa, Astra, Vectra and Zafira.
