Mercedes-Benz is showing its new S-Class at the New York Show this week, the revised car includes the technology introduced in the recent E-Class as well as a few innovative firsts.
Jeeves won't need to ask his rear seat passenger if he can have a break as the S-Class will tell him, the big saloon has Attention Assist driver drowsiness monitoring system as standard. Always a technological flagship, the S-Class also gains Lane Keeping Assist, Night View Assist, High Beam Assist and a plethora of new kit that makes the ride about as safe and comfortable as you could possibly imagine.
Among the enhancements are changes to the infotainment system, the S-Class featuring greater connectivity and interactivity with new USB ports and Bluetooth connection. The 'Comand' screen in the centre console is offered with a new function called Splitview, this innovative display allowing the front passengers to view different outputs; the driver able to have a navigation screen while the front seat passenger watches a DVD.
The most important changes to the range though are environmental, the S-Class getting some BlueEfficiency enhancements to improve economy and emissions. A smoother underfloor, on-demand auxiliaries and an automatic transmission that can disconnect from the engine when idling allows economy enhancements of up to 10% across the S-Class range.
Visually the new S-Class gains a more prominent front grille and a rear bumper that now incorporates the exhausts. The exterior lights have also been enhanced with LEDs featuring heavily. Full details of the new range and its pricing will be announced nearer its Autumn on-sale date.
