Five of the best Le Mans round-trippers

Five of the best Le Mans round-trippers

We're off to Le Mans, but this year we're watching the pennies more so we've chosen five cars that'll get you there and back on a single tankful. Diesel has been big news at Le Mans now for a few years, oil burning Audis having dominated at the 24-hour race. Us Brits love Le Mans, with a huge proportion of the visiting crowd coming from these shores. From London to Le Mans it's about a 720-mile round trip, which got us thinking: in what we could drive over to Le Mans and back using just one tank of fuel? Our own endurance challenge if you like.

It's not scientific; just five cars we reckon would do the job admirably, in comfort and perhaps with a bit of Le Mans credibility too. Which is why there are no mega-mpg capable city cars in our list, just five machines that we wouldn't be embarrassed about parking up alongside a Ferrari or Lamborghini in a dusty Le Mans campsite. Oh, and they're all diesels. Naturally.
