Citroen has announced it is looking into the feasibility of producing an ultra-environmentally friendly vehicle based on its C-Cactus concept car.
The project approaches green motoring from a new angle, Citroen adopting a back-to-basics approach in the design and build of its environmentally friendly machine.
Simplified design is key to Citroen's goals, the C-Cactus doing away with anything superfluous to the safety and comfort of passengers.
The concept does without a conventional dashboard, the trim that does exist in the car's interior being largely made up of recycled material.
Highlighting just how serious Citroen is in its simplified approach is the door panel design; those in the C-Cactus featuring only 2 pieces compared to the twelve you would find in a current production car.
Citroen's engineers are looking at a number of possible powertrains for the future-looking project.
The list under consideration includes a 1.0-litre petrol engine with emissions under 100g/km, or a HyMotion2 diesel-electric hybrid with near 100mpg capability and CO2 emissions of just 78g/km.
A fully electric option is also being considered, Citroen stating that such a drivetrain could potentially offer a top speed of around 70mph and a range of 100 miles.
