Fiat has given the 500 even more stopping power with the introduction of the new 500 Start&Stop. It does exactly as the name suggests, and is the latest car to boost its eco credentials by allowing the engine to cut out when the car's idling.
It's based on the 1.2 Lounge edition of the quirky city car - the most popular among buyers - and sees CO2 emissions reduced to 113g/km from 118g/km and fuel consumption to 58.9mpg from 56.5mpg. Small gains, but Fiat reckons that in urban traffic, fuel consumption can be improved by up to 12 percent.
Available now, the newcomer costs £9,500 - the same as the standard car, so it's nice to see a manufacturer not making you pay a premium for greenness.
