While everyone else is cramming their new cars into the Detroit show, Mercedes has taken a different tack and decided to launch its new CLC small coupé at Berlin Fashion Week. The CLC is taking a starring role alongside supermodel Eva Padberg, who Mercedes has appointed as a 'brand ambassador' for the car.

Regardless of whatever glamour Miss Padberg brings to the CLC, the new coupé goes on sale in the UK in June and replaces the previous C-Class Sport Coupé. Based on the new C-Class saloon, the CLC is a two-door model that has 1,100 unique components to make it more of a standalone model.

Among the new parts for the CLC are revised steering to make it quicker to react and feel sportier, and a revised 1.8-litre petrol engine with 184bhp that gives better fuel economy than its predecessor.

The CLC will be available with the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the C-Class saloon, though Mercedes will not confirm if there will be an AMG version fitted with the 6.2-litre V8 engine. Expect prices to start at around £20,000 for the CLC in entry-level trim.
