Meanest MINI can lose its rag

MINI has added even more excitement to the all-new Convertible by adding a hot JCW version to the range. We've just driven the Cooper S Convertible and were hugely impresses by its performance and driving experience - so this new one should be an absolute hoot.

Featuring the same 211bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the JCW hatch, which pushes out 207lb.ft of torque, the open top screamer will hit 62mph in just 6.9 seconds on the way to 146mph. We'd advise not waving your arms in the air at that speed, mind. More impressive than its performance stats, arguably, are its eco credentials. It's no Toyota Prius, but with 169g/km of CO2 and 39.8mpg - from a 211bhp convertible, don't forget - it's a very clean ticket to a lot of fresh air thrills.

Standard equipment includes an aerodynamic body kit, Alcantara steering wheel rim, sports seats, air conditioning, 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels and JCW badging everywhere. It also comes with a whole range of dynamic safety features, including anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control and traction control... basically, MINI engineers have made it as difficult as possible to lose control of the JCW.

The JCW Convertible goes on sale March 28th with the rest of the Convertible range, priced from £23,470 without any options - so count on at least £25,000 in reality if you're thinking of taking the plunge
