Chevrolet Concept Mini-cars

Despite the debut of several outrageously powerful and sporting cars at the show, one of the stands getting the most attention was Chevrolet's. The focus was a trio of mini-car concepts, called the Beat, Groove and Trax.

Although the show cars were intended to indicate Chevrolet's global design direction, it is incredibly significant that GM would reveal these cars in the USA and not at a European show. These cars signify a shift in consumer awareness.

Funky styling aside (which we expect to see in Chevrolet showrooms soon), the concepts feature efficient new powerplants that are a world away from the favoured V8 in America. The Trax mini-SUV (orange) is powered by a modest 1-litre petrol engine, but also packs a standalone battery pack and electric motor to power the rear wheels, providing four-wheel drive when required. Meanwhile, the Groove (the black, retro one) features a tiny 1-litre diesel engine, an unheard of commodity in the States.
