One of the newest open-topped cars on the market is this, the third body style in the BMW 1 Series range. It's arguably the most elegant of the 1s too, especially with the roof stowed away neatly underneath its rigid tonneau cover. Apparently, keeping the rear deck flat was one of the main reasons BMW decided early on not to even investigate the use of a folding hardtop.
In fairness, the soft-top takes up a lot less room, so the boot is still a usable size and the rear seats don't seem to be too compromised in comparison to the 1 Series Coupé it is based on. Although the equally-new Audi A3 Cabriolet is probably this car's closest rival, keener drivers will note that the BMW has rear-wheel drive, which, depending on engine choice, makes it the enthusiasts' choice.
