Audi RS4
The
Audi RS4 is nothing short of a revelation. Most recent fast Audi saloons housed big, powerful turbocharged engines powering all four wheels. They are undoubtedly fast, but just a little anodyne in comparison to more 'exciting' rear-wheel drive rivals.
At a glance, the RS4 doesn't appear too different. It is still equipped with four-wheel drive and a 414bhp V8 ensures it is still outrageously fast. However, it's a naturally aspirated engine and has an appetite for revs to match
BMW's M-cars. On top of that, the four-wheel drive has been tuned to give a more rear-led stance, ensuring that the driver feels much closer to the action, yet retaining the inherent safety of the configuration.
It's pretty much a direct fight between the M3 and the RS4 in price terms, at fifty grand a piece, though the RS4 usefully has an extra pair of doors for that price. There are even estate and cabrio versions.
