BMW M3
They don't get any newer than this. You can't buy the C 63 AMG Mercedes as yet, so if you want the ultimate V8-engined performance car that still retains a modicum of practicality and everyday usability, the
BMW M3 is it.
You may have noticed that the M3 is actually the only car here to make do with just two doors. That may put off a few customers, but we suspect buyers in this market are more interested in the car's dynamics and performance than outright practicality. Anyway, it's likely that BMW will build a four-door version too.
So, what do you get for your fifty thousand quid? Well, a 4-litre V8 engine naturally, with a high-revving characteristic sure to endear itself to enthusiasts. Its peak power of 414bhp is on a par with most rivals (that super-Merc aside) and maximum torque of 295lb.ft should be enough. The M3 promises to be the most engaging of this lot to drive too.
