When introducing the new Fiesta, Ford's marketing people admitted that among its traditional buyers it was looking to attract downsizers. That's one of the first times we've heard a manufacturer admit such a thing, and it certainly won't be the last. The Fiesta is very well positioned to do this, it heading straight to the top of the supermini class. Ford calls the new Fiesta its 'smallest big car' and more than just marketing speak nonsense there's a real element of truth to that.
Driving with a maturity that belies its supermini status the Fiesta feels like a car in the class above. The interior is beautifully finished too, and you can spec your Fiesta with big-car levels of kit. More spacious than ever, yet still offering all the economy usually associated with superminis, the Fiesta is a downsizer's dream. Add prices, economy, emissions and running costs lower than the outgoing car and it's little wonder Ford is in confident mood.
