Renault's four electric cars

Renault is playing its cards close to its chest with this one, but the French maker has confirmed that it will unveil four entirely new electric cars in Frankfurt. The trickle of electric cars we've seen over the last couple of years will soon turn to a flood, as both car makers and Governments begin to pour serious money into developing the vehicles and recharging infrastructure needed.

Renault hopes to lead the way by unveiling an electric car to suit every motoring need; by the look of the teaser shot, the four-car range stretches from city car to full-sized saloon.

It's reported that the cars will be ready for sale by 2012, priced similarly to their conventionally powered counterparts. And Renault is so confident of its technology - which is based on cutting edge lithium ion battery power - that it reckons one third of its sales by 2015 will be electric cars. We'll report further when Renault spills the beans at Frankfurt.
