Peugeot showed the Italians at the Bologna Show how to come up with a racy car when it unveiled its Bipper Beep Beep concept in the same colours as its 908 HDi FAP Le Mans racer. However, the Beep Beep is about as far removed from a race car as possible and is an MPV concept based on the French firm's new Bipper small van.
The Beep Beep also has to get by with 70bhp from 1.4-litre petrol or diesel engines instead of the 908's 700bhp motor. That does mean the Beep Beep is good for a wallet-friendly 62.7mpg combine economy and just 119g/km of carbon dioxide emissions.
Aside from the stand-out paint job, the concept comes with 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with sticky sports tyres and big brakes tucked behind the wheels. There are also gold-tinted windows to mimic the style of the visors on the helmets worn by the 908 racer's drivers.
Unlike its sister concept, the Citroen Nemo Concetto, the Beep Beep has not been confirmed for sale in the UK, though Peugeot insiders say it's more than likely to follow on some months after the basic Bipper van goes on sale in May 2008. The Beep Beep will feature rear seats for three and a multiple storage solutions to make it family friendly.
