Renault confirms sleek Coupé

Visit Bologna if you want a sneak preview of how next year's Renault Laguna Coupé will look. The sleek coupé, which was first unveiled at Frankfurt earlier this year, has been confirmed for production by a source within Renault. He promises that the production car will look virtually identical to the concept car that's currently rotating on a plinth on the Renault stand at the Bologna Show. There will obviously be a few tweaks to the design prior to reaching the showrooms (those butterfly doors will be binned for conventional hinged items for instance), but our insider claims that otherwise the show car is extremely close in style to the actual car.

It's likely to be initially powered by the premium engines in the Laguna range, including the higher power 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. These will be complemented by a range-topping V6 choice borrowed from Renault's partner Nissan. A GT coupé in the finest French tradition, the Laguna Coupé will compete against the Peugeot 407 Coupé, as well as hoping to steal buyers bored of the omnipresent premium badged coupé alternatives like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz CLK.
