Renault is set to launch its first proper SUV, the Koleos, at the Geneva show in March.
The French firm says the Koleos is a 'crossover' vehicle that offers on-road comfort with off-road ability.
The Koleos has been jointly developed with Nissan, using the same four-wheel drive system as the X-Trail, and will be built at Renault's factory in Korea.
Similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V that are its main rivals, the Koleos shares the same front end style as the latest Laguna.
Renault says the Koleos will come with a generous level of standard equipment, including keyless entry and starting, automatic headlights and wipers, along with and cruise control.
The interior has been designed to offer the versatility of an MPV, with folding seats similar to the Scenic's.
The boot provides 450-litres of space with the seats up and 1,380-litres with all seats folded.
When the Koleos goes on sale in the UK in July this year, it will come with the choice of 2.0-litre turbodiesels in either 150- or 175bhp tunes.
Buyers will have the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox with both engine options.
The 2.0 dCi 150 turbodiesel will be available in front- or four-wheel drive versions, while the more powerful engine will only come with a four-wheel drive transmission.
Renault has not released prices or specifications yet and says these will be announced closer to the Koleos going on sale in July in the UK.
