Cars aren't that different to people - hit middle age and it's crisis time. But that's nothing a good makeover can't cure... right? Recycling is just about the coolest thing anyone can do these days; heck, the Government is actually throwing money at us right now to recycle our old bangers. In the industry, however, recycling has been going on for years. It's also known as 'facelifting,' 'refreshing,' 'model year updating,' and all kinds of other euphemisms that try to mask the process of selling an old car as 'new'.
That's a cynical approach, of course, and while the midlife facelift is often just an excuse to put an old car back in the public eye (a few recent notables spring to mind), there are times when an overhaul is an absolute essential if a car is to avoid sinking without trace entirely. Conversely, sometimes a maker can ruin a perfectly good car for no reason with overenthusiastic use of the designers' pen. Or chrome, as the case may be.
