Widely regarded as one of the most horribly offensive front ends ever grafted onto a car, the Scorpio will never be remembered for what it actually was - a perfectly reasonable big Ford saloon - but for its terrifying ugliness. If Chunk from The Goonies were a car, this is what he'd be.
Bizarrely, the Scorpio was a facelift of the Mark III Ford Granada. From 1985 the 'Scorpio' tag was reserved for top-of-the-range Granadas, but in 1994 Ford gave its big saloon a comprehensive overhaul and changed the model name entirely. Sadly, the surgeon in charge of the operation was evidently blind, but under the skin lie some significant updates including armchair style seats and air suspension, in keeping with the Scorpio's luxury car pretentions. Sadly (or perhaps not) the Scorpio was never replaced, largely because of a general shift by buyers towards premium executive saloons. As an aside, rival Vauxhall didn't heed the warning, and some years later released the Signum anyway.
