Ferrari F430 Spider Bio Fuel

Supercars aren't exactly high up on the green-ness scale, but Ferrari is aiming to change that. Indeed, the news from Ferrari is that it intends to reduce its carbon emissions by 40% by 2012. To help achieve those reductions Ferrari is looking at bio-fuels, and at Detroit it showed a F430 Spider converted to run on E85, containing 85% ethanol, an alcohol fuel derived from plants. The reduction in emissions might look slight at just 5%, but measured against conventional fossil fuels E85 is a much lower CO2 emitter due to its absorption of CO2 during its growing process.

A nice side-effect of using E85 in the F430 is a 10bhp increase in power, torque also growing by 4%. Still a prototype at the moment, the F430 Spider Bio Fuel would be able to run on conventional fuel too, making it a flex-fuel supercar. Perfect for the rich driving fans with an environmental bent, then.
