VW is once again pushing to have its badge talked about as a rival for the BMW roundel, Audi's four rings and the three-pointed star of Mercedes-Benz with its new Passat CC. Sharing its underpinnings with the regular Passat, the CC gets an entirely new body, Volkswagen calls it a coupé-like, despite its four-door layout. The sleek lines mean it's a strict four-seater, Volkswagen hoping it'll break VW into the premium sports saloon market. That's a big ask, so to give it the best chance of success VW has thrown a number of toys at it. There's a lane-assistance system that provides corrective steering lock if you wander from your lane, and a self-parking function.
Other highlights include the panoramic glass roof, giving all the CC's passengers an overhead view. Power will come from VW's range of direct injection petrol and diesel engines, the range-topping models being fitted with 4Motion all-wheel drive. Expect to see it in showrooms in the UK in the last quarter of the year.
