The Matiz might be a legacy of Daewoo's time in the UK, but it remains a low-cost choice for the budget buyer with a Chevy badge on the grille. Another five-door model, the Matiz is a smart looking city car, and features the smallest engine here, it being just 0.8-litres in capacity. It's a characterful little unit though, which might not have sparkling on-paper performance (with a 0-62mph time of 18.2 seconds), but makes up for that with 54.3mpg economy. In common with all the budget machines here the interior is lacking in flair and finish, and equipment looks a bit light compared to some and it's painfully narrow too.
That makes it useful around town, but a bit scary if you're on the motorway. An enjoyable if slightly compromised choice, the Matiz is feeling its age in this company, and not the bargain it could be. If you want one haggle hard.
