Unless you're a bona-fide budget conscious motorist you could be forgiven for not having heard of the Perodua brand. A Malaysian firm, Perodua has long been the manufacturer to look for if you're after the lowest priced car in the UK. And it doesn't get much lower than £4,812 for its Kelisa model. Understandably, your money's not going to buy you rocketship performance, or much in the way of luxury, but the Kelisa is a useful little five-door runabout. Perodua describes the Kelisa's performance as 'nippy', but at nearly 15 seconds to reach 60mph you'll not be looking forward to motorway slip roads.
The small 1.0-litre engine's 55bhp mated to the Kelisa's light weight does mean that the 55.4mpg quoted combined consumption shouldn't be too difficult to achieve, while CO2 emissions of just 121g/km is impressive. Super budget motoring then, and not without compromises, but if you have to have a new car then there's nothing cheaper out there.
