Unveiled at the Geneva motor show this year, the Hybrid X concept is the most recent technology showcase for Toyota's future generation hybrid cars. The four-door four-seat 'open-space' concept further extends the sustainable mobility mantra touted by the Japanese automaker, and is claimed to better mileage figures while emitting less global warming CO2 emissions.
The Hybrid X concept uses Toyota's 'hybrid synergy drive' system already employed in the Prius and several Lexus models. The system combines the attributes of a series hybrid system (which uses an internal combustion engine to turn a generator and produce electric power) with a parallel hybrid system, which uses both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine simultaneously to power the drive wheels.
Inside, the concept boasts an open plan layout with two independent rear seats that rotate 12 degrees and three LCD screens to relay energy flow path, navigation and interior ambience information to the driver.
