Vauxhall will unveil its third Insignia variant at the Paris Motor Show in October.

The estate version joins the hatchback and saloon models, Vauxhall naming the new estate Sports Tourer.

The neatly styled Sports Tourer shares the same wheelbase the hatchback and saloon, but features a 80mm stretch in length to maximise load space.

Offered in both front and four-wheel-drive the Sports Tourer will introduce a new ecoFLEX model with lower emissions and fuel consumption.

Two new engines will join the Insignia's range with the introduction of the Sports Tourer, a more powerful version of the turbodiesel and a smaller capacity turbocharged petrol unit.

Vauxhall is adamant that the Sports Tourer is a unique model, Mark Adams, Vice-President of GM Europe Design stating: “this is a stand-alone model and not simply an estate version of the saloon. In fact, all the bodywork aft of the B-pillars is unique to the Sports Tourer.”

The Sports Tourer will be available in UK showrooms from the second quarter of 2009, with prices announced nearer its on sale date.
