The BlueMotion models in VW's line-up represent the most fuel efficient versions of each model range and now buyers of both the Touran and Sharan MPVs have the option of BlueMotion variants for the first time.
Starting at a price of £16,725 for the 'S' model, the compact Touran BlueMotion is powered by a 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine producing 104bhp.
Despite returning 52.3mpg on the combined cycle, and CO2 emissions of 144g/km, the Touran BlueMotion still features seating for seven, six airbags and air conditioning.
The same can be said for the new Sharan BlueMotion, though it's a larger car, so has been fitted with a 2.0-litre TDI engine boasting 138bhp.
At a purchase price of £21,290 the Sharan BlueMotion S manages to return 47.1mpg on the combined cycle with carbon dioxide emissions rated at 159g/km.
UK dealers are now taking orders and it's expected that a BlueMotion version of the all-new VW Golf will go on sale in the near future too.
