Some twelve years after it introduced the old Ka Ford will be showing its new version in Paris. The diminutive Ka promises to deliver all the driving pleasure of the outgoing car, but in a safer, more refined and even more economical package. A diesel engine will feature for the first time, the 75bhp 1.3-litre unit delivering 67.2mpg. Both the 1.2-litre petrol and that diesel offer sub 120g/km CO2. The petrol version cuts fuel consumption over the old 1.3-litre car by 21%.
Despite the improved economy and emissions Ford is claiming that the new Ka will be as fun to drive as the old one, as its chassis and suspension engineers have focused on driver appeal. In the years that have passed since the original was launched safety standards have improved dramatically and the Ka benefits from the latest safety equipment. We expect the new Ka to be a big hit when it reaches UK showrooms early in 2009.
