Frankfurt concept: Citroen REVOLTe

Citroen certainly is pulling out all the stops at Frankfurt, and after wowing audiences with the splendid little DS3 it rolled out this, the REVOLTe concept. It actually carries 'DS' badges and is smaller than the DS3, but Citroen won't commit to production. Yet, anyway.

What's all the fuss about?

The colour attracts a lot of attention (and we expect the dangers of painting it in that pinkish hue and calling it 'REVOLTe' haven't passed Citroen by), but so does its styling, which is pure concept car fantasy. The roll back roof has more than a hint of 2CV about it (and Fiat 500C for that matter), and there's no way those rear 'suicide' doors would make production in such a small car - is there?

Any new technology?

Not really. There's little or no purpose to the REVOLTe concept except for Citroen to say 'look what we can do.' However, we do know it's a petrol-electric hybrid that can run on electricity alone, for what it's worth, and the interior is pure future fantasy; it's a three-seat arrangement with a central driver's hub and little more than a big colour display. Looks cool though, and it's fashioned from woven leather and red velvet. Lovely.

Will it ever see the light of day?

Very unlikely - it's more a styling concept than anything else - but all the talk at Frankfurt was of hints of a C2 replacement. Sadly that's not going to happen according to Citroen bosses, who actually don't plan to replace the C2 at all when its time runs out next year. Still, motor shows provide a rare chance to see things like this, and it's nice to see Citroen doing the business.
