Fiat may be calling its updated Punto an Evo, but this is more for the evolutionary part of the name than any sporting connotations. What the Punto Evo is all about is a general refresh of the Italian supermini and the addition of Fiat's fine new MultiAir engine.
What's all the fuss about?
The big news is the arrival of the 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine. It's claimed to reduce emissions by 10 percent, up power by 10 percent and give better throttle response. All of this and the new engine also delivers more low-down shove as well to help with town driving. A revised grille, new front and rear bumpers and lights mark out the Punto Evo, while inside the new dashboard and seats give it a classier look.
Anything that stands out?
Other than the new MultiAir engine, the main change with the Punto Evo is that it's looking to capitalise on the success of the Fiat 500. This means the looks of the Punto Evo are a little more funky and distinctive, though the car's overall profile remains unchanged from its predecessor.
When can I buy one?
The first Punto Evo models will arrive in the UK in March 2010. Prices will be slightly up on the current model's but most versions will feature a new portable 'infotainment' system developed by Fiat and satnav makers TomTom. There is also likely to be the addition of stop-start fuel-saving technology to some models.
