British firm Avro has built a strictly limited, big power version of the Ford GT.

Called the 720 Mirage it's the fastest road car ever to wear a Ford badge and has a top speed of 220mph - 15mph more than a standard GT.

Brentwood-based Avro has increased engine power from the original's 550bhp to 720bhp, and torque jumps to 627lb.ft.

A larger supercharger is the main element in gaining more power, but Avro has also worked its magic on many smaller components.

There's a whole new exhaust, upgraded brakes, revised suspension and the 720 Mirage sits 25mm closer to the ground than a standard GT.

All 10 of the 720 Mirages to be made will be finished in metallic orange and can also be spotted by the lack of a rear bumper.

No rear bumper saves weight and makes space for a Formula One-style rear diffuser that helps keep the car glued to the road at high speeds.

Each of the 10 720 Mirages will come with a numbered plaque on the centre tunnel.

Avro expects the limited run of the fastest Ford road car to sell out quickly, even with a price tag of more than £150,000.
