Connaught Type-D Hybrid

The Connaught name first graced racecars in the '50s, but has been revived to produce a new range of exclusive sportscars, to be built in Wales. First from the company is the Type-D GT Syracuse, a mouthful defining what Connaught calls an everyday supercar.

A unique, supercharged V10 engine with 300bhp powers this unusual four-seat coupe to 60mph from rest in under five seconds, on the way to a theoretical top speed of 170mph. Doesn't sound very green, does it? Well, Connaught will follow up the Syracuse with a hybrid version.

We've yet to see it in the metal, but Connaught is claiming that the hybrid version will utilise an electric motor-generator, alongside a version of the company's V10 engine, to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and hit 140mph while achieving 42mpg on the Combined Cycle. That's quite an achievement. It'll be interesting to see what price it comes out as.
