A few enthusiasts may remember the Venturi name from the '90s, when several turbocharged mid-engined coupes were built to challenge the likes of the Lotus Esprit. Unfortunately, that business was not sustainable and was bought out by a Monaco-based business man in the year 2000. The turn of the millennium was to bring about a massive change in the remit of the company.
Venturi burst back into the limelight at the 2004 Paris Motor Show with the Fetish, claimed to be the world's first two-seat electric sports car. A high-performance electric motor puts about 240bhp out to the rear wheels, with maximum torque of 220Nm available instantaneously. Acceleration is on a par with any other sportscar, with 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. Naturally, range is limited (Venturi claims over 150 miles), though the advanced lithium-ion batteries can be charged in just an hour. Sounds too good to be true?
