Keeping a safe distance form the car in front will be no problem with the world's first distance control assistance from Nissan. Called the Distance Control Assist, it uses radar to maintain a safe preset gap from the car in front.

The Distance Control Assist also works to help warn the driver when the car in front is slowing with an audio alert. The system also has a 'push back' function which speeds up the time it takes the driver to lift his or her foot from the throttle pedal.

This new system can also work alongside Nissan's upgraded Intelligent Cruise Control, which also uses radar to keep the car at the same speed as the car in front. If there's no traffic ahead, the cruise control lets the car at drive at the speed set by the driver, but it also uses the satellite navigation to slow the car for tighter corners.

The Intelligent Cruise Control can be used from speeds as low as 3mph to make city driving more relaxed and can work with the Distance Control Assist. Both functions are worked by steering-wheel mounted buttons.

Nissan has not confirmed these system will be fitted to cars sold in the UK, but expect to see them used on Nissan's luxury brand, Infiniti, when they go on sale in the UK in October 2008.
