Here's a concept that defines Los Angeles. In spirit, the Hyundai Gator harks back to the very early dragsters from the 1960s, the first of which raced in LA and Southern California. The Gator, with its reptilian styling, looks forward as much as it looks back. Hyundai call the Gator concept a 'Top Fuelcell Dragster"; designed for the future, where internal combustion engines and nitrous oxide may have been replaced by cleaner and more efficient technologies such as the fuel cell. From an enthusiast's point of view, it's good to see the technology being put to use for the purpose of motorsport. Thanks to huge electric motors integrated in the rear wheels, theoretically, the Top Fuelcell Dragster could be as quick as today's racers, though the quarter mile runs will lost some of their excitement without flame throwing from the cars' exhaust pipes and that deafening roar from the engines!
