As part of this year's LA Auto Show design challenge, Kia's Los Angeles design studio decided to pay homage to the city's spirit of adventure with a concept designed for drift racing. Apparently, the first officially sanctioned drift race in the United States took place in LA. The Sidewinder concept allies motorsport and environmental awareness, though I believe it may be the first time that anyone has seen the value-for-money Kia brand associated with the art of drifting. The concept uses a hydrogen turbine to feed electrical power to electric motors built into the rear wheels. Lots of torque (as would be delivered by this powertrain) is ideal for getting a car into a slide and holding it there, as required by the competition. Usually accompanied by wailing exhausts and turbo whistle, the Sidewinder should only be audible by its tyres screaming for mercy.
