Audi is one of the most prolific diesel engine producers. In the A4, buyers can choose between 1.9, 2.0, 2.5, 2.7 and 3-litre diesel engines ensuring there is something for everyone. Despite its high calibre image, classy interiors and superb build quality, the A4 range is conspicuously good value for money, with some versions of the 2.7-litre V6 TDI available for the same price of higher spec. This feature is not all about performance though so we'd opt for one of the 2.0 TDIs, which come equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is on a par with the Accord in terms of get up and go, if a little down on fuel economy and refinement. Where the Audi scores big is on image and desirability. Many buyers would rather have a piece of metal on their drive with the four Audi rings on the bonnet then the Honda 'H', though the latter is a better car.
