An extra 600 jobs are being created at Jaguar Land Rover as part of a £700 million push to develop new models and green technology.

With the ink only just dry on Tata's final takeover of the British firms this month, Jaguar Land Rover is recruiting engineers to work on technology, product development and sustainable energy projects.

The two halves of the company have also announced a new graduate recruitment programme to start in September.

Jaguar reports a boost in sales thanks to the introduction of the new XF saloon, while Land Rover has achieved three successive years of record sales.

Newly appointed Jaguar Land Rover chief executive David Smith said: "The recruitment drive demonstrates confidence in our future and we have entered an exciting era with stunning new models and ambitious technology.

"I can't remember a better time to be part of the British car industry, and certainly it's a brilliant time for Jaguar Land Rover."
