Frankfurt news: Volvo C30 SportsCoupe

Volvo unveiled the new C30 SportsCoupe at Frankfurt. It's not really new, and it's not really a coupé either, but we still like the look of Volvo's facelifting.

What's all the fuss about?

There's no major fuss, but there's no denying that Volvo's craftsmen have given the C30 a right good trim. The front gets a major snip, but it looks virtually untouched at the back and sides - Volvo has given the C30 a mullet, basically. There are, of course, some new colours for the body, and a selection of nicer looking, brightly appointed interior options. And there's the option of a sport chassis, which lowers the springs by 10mm, stiffens up the dampers and sharpens the steering rack.

What makes it so green?

The new DRIVe version, that's what. Equipped with Volvo's start/stop engine technology, the C30 DRIVe now slides under the road tax radar because it only spits out 99g/km of CO2. It'll return 74.3mpg combined too, which gives it a theoretical 857-mile tank range.

When can I buy one?

Production starts next month, and there'll be an R-Design version in early 2010 that gets the sport chassis bundled in with it.
