Volvo's XC60 has broken cover in advance of its Geneva Show unveiling next month.
The crossover, all-wheel drive XC60 is being touted as Volvo's safest ever car thanks to a system Volvo calls City Safety.
Urban drivers will no-doubt have encountered occasions where they've been caught napping in slow moving traffic and been late to brake.
The XC60's City Safety system helps avoid such situations, allowing the driver to avoid or reduce the effects of low-speed accidents in the city by braking itself if the driver doesn't react in time.
In addition to the City Safety the XC60 comes loaded with all Volvo's other accident prevention and occupant protection devices should a collision be unavoidable.
The new car, which Volvo claims mixes SUV traits with coupé-style is a four-door crossover aimed at customers with an "active urban lifestyle", according to Volvo Cars President and CEO Fredrik Arp.
Three engine choices will be offered when the XC60 reaches the showrooms in October.
The majority of buyers will opt for one of the two diesel engines, these producing either 163 or 185bhp, the flagship turbocharged six-cylinder petrol version delivering 285bhp.
All the launch models will be four-wheel drive, but in 2009 Volvo will expand the range with a front-wheel drive 2.4-litre version with 163bhp and a CO2 output of around 170g/km.
