We're not often given to printing all and sundry that appears on the internet purporting to be the hottest new car on the planet. However, the picture you see here is all but confirmed as the forthcoming Alfa MiTo GTA - one of the hottest new cars on the planet.
We'll find out for sure soon enough (because leaks are invariably followed by a swift response from the manufacturer in question), but the car you're looking at here is set to topple the MINI JCW as the most barmy city car ever.
What's certain is that the MiTo GTA will hit the stands at Geneva in March (another reason we'll definitely be seeing more of it very soon), and it will go on sale later in the year. Oh, and it will be fast. Very fast.
Powered by a 1.75-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing a massive 230bhp, the MiTo should crack 0-62mph in six seconds or less, thanks in part to extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre for the bodywork. A set of lightweight alloy wheels sends weight even further south, and aerodynamic modifications include a new body kit, a bigger front grille (which also aids engine cooling) and dropped suspension to lower the ride.
Expect a quicker steering rack, stiffer springs and an interior that screams high performance - using carbon fibre and leather upholstery. It all adds up to a car with drama unseen in a production city car to date (discounting, possibly, the limited production Mini JCW GP of 2006). In fact, Alfa ex-CEO Luca De Meo allegedly claims that the MiTo GTA is as fast as the maker's 8C supercar between 50mph and 75mph - a claim verging on unbelievable.
We'll report in full from the show stands at Geneva, so come back to get all the info on Alfas latest piece of thundering automotive art.
