BMW 3 Series Convertible

Though there has been a proliferation of new folding hardtop convertibles in the past year or so, it must still have been a difficult decision for BMW to ditch the 3 Series Convertible's traditional fabric roof in favour of a heavier and bulkier hardtop, while at the same time retaining the "ultimate driving machine" ethos and not losing too much practicality.

We've driven the new Convertible ahead of its on sale date and can safely say that BMW has done a good job. The new Convertible is fabulous to drive, with little real compromise to on-road dynamics. Admittedly, we think that the regular Coupé looks better than the Convertible with the roof up, but with it stowed it's as stylish as ever. The folded roof does compromise boot space, but a few clever features have been included to ease the pain. The combination of the security of a solid roof in a winter's day (alongside the option to soak up some rays when available) is bound to swing the decision for many buyers.
