At present, Mercedes-Benz has no plans to offer an open-topped version of the all-new C-Class saloon, preferring to distance its four-seat CLK convertible from the regular saloon by referring to it as a compact version of the CL (K stands for the German word, 'Kompakt') rather than calling it a C-Class Convertible.

Supporting that is a price range that sits above the 3 Series Convertible rather than competes directly with it. However, we think that buyers are very likely to consider these cars as equals. They are certainly of similar size and quality, though most of the Mercedes models are biased towards comfort, where as even the entry-level BMW retains dynamic appeal. The CLK goes furthest though, with the availability of a 6.2-litre V8-engined AMG model. It's got nearly 500bhp, but will set you back about £69,000 too.
