The new Lexus LS AWD will be shown in public for the first time at next week's Moscow International Motor Show, the show's host country likely to be one of the largest markets for such a car.
Although the hybrid LS 600h model features four-wheel drive as standard, none of the conventional petrol models have had the option until now.
The LS 460 AWD model pairs the silky smooth 4.6-litre V8 with a new all-wheel drive system based on that used in the hybrid model, including a Torsen limited slip centre differential that splits the engine's torque 40/60 front to rear.
Though Russia and the US will be the largest markets for the new four-wheel drive model, it will also go on sale in the UK early in 2009.
