What is claimed to be the "World's Quickest and Fastest MINI" has been developed by MINI's American sales division for use on drag strips, with 650bhp going through the front wheels.

In association with ABF Performance, MINI USA made significant modifications to a MINI Cooper S hatch including replacing the metal bodywork with a lightweight carbon-fibre shell.

Amazingly, the MINI dragster retains its 1.6-litre engine, though the supercharger has been replaced by a rather large turbocharger, which, along with much higher engine speeds, releases more than three times as much power as the regular Cooper S.

ABF Performance plans to sell aftermarket kits to MINI owners for various disciplines of racing, though it's unclear whether the dragster will be sold as a complete car.

UK appearances of the MINI dragster are unlikely, though it will be shown at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas later this year.
