Carma get it Porsche

Design students are given to flights of fancy, but four pupils at the Institute Superieur de Design in Valenciennes, France have come up with their take on how the next Porsche supercar should look. They're also very serious about Porsche adopting their ideas, rather than simply using the car as a showcase for their talent.

The Carma Concept Porsche takes its overall cues from the 911, but the students have refined the shaped to make it as efficient as possible when cutting through the air at high speeds. The rounded shape is free of external clutter, such as door handles and mirrors, to reduce aerodynamic drag to a bare minimum.

The students have not published the Carma Concept's predicted drag coefficient, which measures how cleanly a car passes through the air. However, they claim the Carma will have a considerably lower figure than the current Porsche 911.

Other design features to help make the car more efficient include side intakes for cooling air to the rear-mounted engine and a flat underside to let air pass beneath the car with minimum disturbance. There's also a rear spoiler that's integrated into the rear bodywork rather than protruding from it.

Porsche has yet to comment on the design from the four French students, but a Porsche insider says the German company is intrigued by several aspects of the Carma Concept.
