Chrysler has released teaser shots of two concept cars it will unveil at the Detroit Show, dispelling any ideas that the American firm is despondent after its split from Mercedes earlier this year.

The two concepts are right at the heart of Chrysler's model ranges, with an open-top adventure concept for Jeep and an eco-friendly Voyager MPV design. Neither will make it into production in anything like their show forms, but Chrysler insiders tell us that much of what is seen on this pair will filter through to production cars sooner rather than later.

The Jeep Renegade Concept uses an aluminium body to keep weight down and has minimalist bodywork - a bit like a modern-day beach buggy. Small front and rear overhangs underline this Jeep's off-road abilities, though Jeep remains coy about what engine the Renegade will use.

The ecoVoyager Concept also uses many lightweight materials to make the most of its efficient diesel-electric hybrid power. The diesel engine is a Bluetec unit coupled to an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries, which Chrysler says gives the ecoVoyager fuel economy of around 110mpg.
